ベイシーが晩年所属し最後の黄金時代を記録したパブロ・レーベルのの発足記念ライブを収めた3枚組。ジャズ業界の"ボス"であったノーマン・グランツ主催なだけあって、どのミュージシャンも気合いの入り方がハンパじゃありません。ライブの開始を告げるノーマン・グランツの短いイントロダクションから Basie Power、The Spirit Is Willing、The Meeting と、たたみかけるように当時の定番オープニングナンバーを演奏してオーディエンスの心をガッチリつかんだあと、お馴染みのブルース2曲を演奏してリラックスさせるという完璧なステージ運び。このあたりのベイシーの選曲センスは見事としか言いようがありませんね―。なかでも Basie Power での Jimmy Forrest (ts) のスピード感抜群のソロはクセになりますよ。続くオールスターによるジャムセッションは冗長の感がなきにしもあらずですが、ベイシーのノリノリのイントロに導かれて繰り広げられる豪華極まりないメンバーによる寛いだセッションは「最高」の一語に尽きます。ベイシーが最後に刻み込んだ黄金時代の幕開けの一枚。必聴！！
